Statement by Maker Biar Angeth,
Dean, College of Rural Development and Community Studies (CRDCS)
It is of great pleasure and honour that to introduce this College of Rural Development and Community Studies (CRDCS) to you in order to understand its origins, division of work among its academic staff and support staff as well. The introduction of the College to prospective students, Rumbek communities (Lakes State), South Sudan population, NGOs (national and International) and the countries in the neighbourhood, is to enable them know why this college exists here; and there are pertinent questions to ask: What are significance, mandate, mission, vision and values of this community college? In the paragraphs that follow, we shall highlight the basic ideas, functions, duties and responsibilities of academic departments’ programmes and their staff, and core values of this important educational entity.

- Provide quality teaching and learning an encouraging environment and genuine want to serve and develop our community.

Mr.Maker Biar Angeth
Dean of the College of Rural Development & CS
Maker Biar Angeth holds MA (Hon.) in Strategic Studies, Centre for Peace and Development Studies, University of Juba; BA in Rural Development and Psychology, Day Star University, Nairobi, Kenya.
He received Advanced Certificate in Communicative and Academic Writing Skills from Kakuma Advanced English Language Programme, conducted by Windle Charitable Trust, Kakuma, Kenya.
He is a Fellow of United Nations Institute for Training and Research (Unitar) based in Hiroshima, Japan. Angeth had gone to Beijing, China for training on both China Youth Business Initiation and Management of Commercial Enterprises for Developing Countries. He received a certificate of Entrepreneurship and Leadership Youth Training upon completion.
He had been the Head of Department of Community Studies and Rural Development, currently, the Dean, College of Rural Development and Community Studies, at Rumbek University of Science and Technology.
Angeth is the Provisional Director for Africa Reading Club (ARC). ARC is a community-based organization. ARC deals with issues of illiteracy, widespread poverty and social injustices in the Republic of South Sudan. ARC addresses such issues through educating people, encouraging people to engage in community entrepreneurship and cooperative movement as a vehicle for their empowerment and self-defence.

Mr. Kuol John Mabor - Executive Director in the Vice Chancellor’s Office, Lecturer and Deputy Dean College of Economics and Social Studies

Born in 1985 in Wernyol Payam, Jonglei State. He joined Primary School in Wernyol, Ameer-Naidit (1991), Panyagor Primary School, Twic East County, Jonglei (1994), and Self –help Seventh Day Adventist Primary School in Western Equatoria, Maridi {1999) but he did not complete the studies.
In 2000, he left South Sudan to Uganda where he completed Primary Leaving Examinations (P.L.E) in 2001, Northern Uganda, Itula Primary School, Moyo and subsequently joined Daystar Secondary school –Koboko, formerly Arua District (2002), and went to Kampala where he sat for Uganda Certificate of Education (U.C.E) Ordinary Level “O“ Level in Zana Mixed Secondary school, Wakiso District, Uganda (2005).
After Secondary completion, he joined Upper Nile University (Malakal) in 2008, South Sudan where he specialized in Education Arts majored in English Language and History, he also went for his Master’s Degree (M.A) in Humanitarian and Conflict Studies and completed in (2016), University of Juba, South Sudan. He is a teacher by profession but after he obtained Masters in Humanitarian and Conflict Studies, he was upgraded as a lecturer in the College of Economic and Social Studies, Department of Rural Development. Amol also offers different lectures to other departments, like History, Sociology and Anthropology as well.
Mr. Kuol John Mabior has been holding several administrative posts in Rumbek University of Science and Technology (RUST) besides his teaching profession since 2017. Firstly, he was assigned as Head of Training and External Relations in Academic Affairs (2017), WAP Coordinator (NNGO) that offered Agricultural Training to rural community members in collaboration with Rumbek University of Science and Technology (2017-2018). Amol also headed Department of Sociology and Anthropology (2018-2020).
Currently, he is the Executive Director in the Vice Chancellor’s Office, Rumbek University of Science and Technology since 2017 up to date.
Mr. James Matet- Lecturer at the college of Rural Development & CS
Mr. James Matet Panther Kulang currently serves as Lecturer at College of Rural Development and community studies, Rumbek University of Science and Technology. He holds Master of Arts in Rural Development and Management from Agricultural University of China. He also attained Bachelor Degree in Rural Development from University of Juba.

Mr. Abraham Dut Mading-Teaching Assistant and currently instruct various courses such as Rural Development-

Mr. Daniel Dut Mading Agor holds a Bachelor of Science Degree (Division I) in Development Communication from the University of Juba. He is a Teaching Assistant and currently instruct various courses such as Rural Development planning, Disaster Management, and Natural Resources Management, Rural Economy and Introduction to Rural Development in the college of Rural Development and Community Studies (CRDCS) at Rumbek University of Science and Technology, Lakes state, South Sudan. He is now undertaking a post graduate study (Diploma) in Rural Development at the University of Juba, Centre for Distance and Continual Education, Department of Rural Development.
He has implemented several developmental projects such as integrated Health improvement with different components (WASH, Health, DRR, Protection, Gender and Inclusion), community base protection and Disaster Risks Reduction (DRR) and Resilience with International Rescue Committee (IRC), Women for Women International (W4WI) and South Sudan Red Cross (SSRC) for the last ten years.
His research interests are: Rural Development Planning, sustainable development; sustainable livelihoods; social and economic development, gender inequality and inclusion; International exchange and relations and international Development and foreign aid.
Mr. Gum Maker Gum-Teaching Assistant and college registrar at College of Rural Development and community studies-

Mr. Gum Makur Gum is currently serving as Teaching Assistant and college registrar at College of Rural Development and community studies, Rumbek University of Science and Technology. He holds a bachelor degree of science in Rural Development from Rumbek University of Science and Technology in 2019 and a Diploma in Monitoring and Evaluation from Intex Management Institute, Nairobi-Kenya in 2021. Mr. Gum had served in various capacities including being Director of Agriculture, Forestry, Livestock and Fisheries, Yirol East County from 2017_2021. He also worked for AVSI, a humanitarian organization as Food Security and livelihood Project officer, from 30th November 2020_28th February 2021. He was elected as Guild President of Rumbek University of Science and Technology Students Union (RUST_SU) and had served from 2017_2019. He also worked for Caritas Diocese of Rumbek as Data clerk and hygiene volunteers supervisor from 30th June – 30th November 2020. He is currently serving as civil rights activist with Lakes State Civil Society Organization from 2017_ present.
Gum previously taught in various schools which include Rumbek National Secondary School 2018_2019, and Auxulium Basic School 2011_2013 and Dhieu Alam Secondary school in 2022.
He attended numerous training that includes, Agro Forestry and Horticulture at Yei Agricultural training Centre (YATC) in 2011. He also attended In-service teachers training in Wau Western Bhar el Ghazal State and Teaching Methodology training sponsored by Windle Trust International in Wau. Gum also receives training on Fall-army worm in Awiel-2018 and Crops Monitoring training in Rumbek-2017.
He is the founder of RUST Reading Club and has published some articles that includes “Saving Street children from Inhaling glue substances in Major cities”,” Never accept gives from strangers” etcetera.

Mr. David Thon Deng - Teaching Assistant in Department of Rural Development, College of Rural Development and Community Studies

Mr. David Thon Deng is a Teaching Assistant in Department of Rural Development, College of Rural Development and Community Studies, at Rumbek University of Science and Technology, South Sudan. Mr. Deng is an Examination officer in the College of Rural Development and Community Studies. He both holds Diploma Bachelor Degree of Arts in Social Work and Social Administration from Bugema University. Deng became the Sport Minister in Bugema University Students Association in 2017-2018. He also completed both Certificates Courses in Child Protection and Children’s Rights and Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) from Bugema University, Uganda. He also participated in training conducted by USAID at Makerere University where he was awarded a completion certificate. He completed training course in computer, Tropical Computer Technologies (U) LTD. He represented Arua District in Athletics Championships in 2014 which was held in Mbale, and again at St. Joseph’s College Layibi- Gulu from 05th-12th July 2015. In general, he serves in several School Associations and Community Associations.

Mr.Aranj Yodo Maktab -- Teaching Assistant in the College of Rural Development and Community Studies

Mr.Aranj Yodo Maktab is a Teaching Assistant in the College of Rural Development and Community Studies at Rumbek University of Science and Technology. He holds a Bachelor degree of Arts in Rural Development from University of Juba. Before his appointment as Teaching Assistant by the University, Aranj had previously served in different capacities with humanitarian agencies. He had also worked as Community Development officer with state Ministry of Cooperatives and Rural Development for nearly ten years. He had taught in Wulu Secondary School for two years before his appointment as Teaching Assistant.
